We have a number of custom reports that are included in multiple batch reports and are also saved to many people's Favorites bars. Since these custom reports are heavily used, we do not want to risk breaking them while performing updates, therefore we would create a copy of the report and update the copy instead. However, there is no way to replace the existing custom report with the updated copy once we are finished.
If I try to save the updated copy over the original, I get an error saying that it already exists with no option to replace it.
If I delete the original, I can then save the copy with the same name as the original. However, all the batch reports will break and any Favorites bar shortcuts will be lost.
If I rename the original, I can then save the copy with the same name as the original. However, all the batch reports and Favorites bar shortcuts will continue to point to the old version. Even if I go into the batch report and switch each report member to the new version, I then have to re-do all of the Report Options from scratch again.
As a result of this, I have been simply editing the custom reports in place but then I need to be very careful not to save it while I am working on it. Even worse, if I export a backup copy of the report, I cannot even restore it without running into the same issue mentioned above.
